The family 1896

Caws family 1896

Here's the Caws family, with Byron the ships' pilot there. I imagine myself as seafaring even though I've hardly been near a boat in the past twenty years.

This is a great picture, Litrate, as are the others (including the shed which I read about in Dr Kate's blog). I was fascinated by that idea that you think of yourself as a seafarer despite lack of actual boating activity. I have a similar pic of my mum in Welsh costume aged 5 or so in about 1920 and identify very strongly with it even though I hardly ever go to Wales or see my Welsh relations.

I love it.
I am now speaking in a Scottish accent as I have reclaimed that part of my identity.
I think you should wear Cornish fisherman's jumpers.

I spent my childhood in fisherman's jumpers, which my mum knitted, navy blue, oil wool I think it was called. I would always know what time high tide was, and which way the wind was blowing, I still know which way the wind's blowing, but that's because I am a cyclist.

One of my problems when I used to go windsurfing was that the wind kept changing direction. I needed you there Litrate to point this out as it meant that I got wetter than necessary.
